AGENCIES, SOCHI: Geno Brand Ambassador Candidate Master Leon Luke Mendonca (Fide Rating:2228) bagged gold at the prestigious 49th edition of the International schools team chess championship held in Sochi, Russia recently.
He was awarded an additional gold medal as board prize for winning all his nine games.
The other team members included Gukesh D, Rakshitta Ravi and Savitha Shree, all from Vellamal Vidyalaya School, Chennai. They were the only team selected to represent the country. Incidentally they won the gold medal last year too.
Altogether 100 teams from 78 regions in Russia participated in addition to 22 nations from across the world
