PANJIM: District 317B Lions Clubs International Goa State U-9 Open & Girls chess Championship 2018 received a good response on Friday, at Wagle High School Mangueshi Ponda organised by Ponda Taluka Chess Association in aegis with Goa Chess Association.
The tournament got record entries of 136 in both categories this year which includes 83 Open and 53 Girls category.
In the Open category, there were 3 rated players while in girls there was only one rated player. There are 40 players on 1 point at the end of the first round while 25 players are on 1 point in the girls category.
Among the top players were Parth Kamat, Shubh Kalangutkar, Skandhaj Kotha Pratnesh Malvankar, Pratik Malvankar, Aditya Tari, Vedant Angle, Girija Pednekar, Sayyed Maizah, Sayyed Mahdiya who have won their first round.
