PANJIM: Sri Lanka thrashed Macau 3-0 for the third place and settle for a bronze at Nehru stadium, Fatorda on Tuesday. The game plan of head coach Kolonnage Perera and Sri Lanka was evident from the start, coming out extremely attacking in the game. It really surprised Macau, and they never really got going in the match.
Macau went behind to Lanka midfielder Kavindu Ishan’s glancing header off a corner kick by Hondamunige Silva in the 10th minute of the match.
Macau’s defensive frailties were exposed for the second successive game as Lanka capitalized on a tired looking side. In the 59th minute Kavindu Ishan was the provider as he played a delicious cross which was put to bed by Chandrarathna to make it 2-0.
Any chance of a Macau comeback were killed off in the 76th minute when Ishan’s through ball was side footed by Johar Zarwan to make it 3-0.
