MARGAO: Social Cultural Club of Loutolim prevailed over Ambelim Sports Club 4-3 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Wilred Leisure Super Soccer inter-village tournament organized by Wilred Leisure Sports Club at Curtorim ground, Friday. Ambelim led 1-0 at half time.
Ambelim held the upper hand in the opening session with their midfielders working in tandem with their forwards to put the rival citadel under pressure. Their persistent forays materialized in the 26th minute when striker Samson Fernandes received the ball from his own half and slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Stunned by the deficit, Loutolim created a few opportunities but their forwards failed to get past the rival defense line.
Crossing over, Loutolim put up a vastly improved display and conducted well orchestrated raids but failed to get the desired result. After a couple of misses, Loutolim struck the equalizer in the 29th minute when Joe Colaco unleashed a stiff shot which crashed into the net.
Both teams went all-out in search of the match-winner but the defenders from both teams stood tall in protecting their citadel.
In the tie-breaker, Volney Vaz, Miguel Anthony and Jeslon Fernandes were on target for Loutolim while Lyndon D’Silva and Samson Fernandes converted for Ambelim.
