MARGAO: Loyola High School, Margao were crowned as the champions in the Goa leg of the Young Heroes tournament as they defeated St Teresa High School 5-0 and qualified for the National final.
In order to identify young talent the country’s largest student direct contact programme from the very grassroots through scouting program, Young Heroes complete their campaign in Goa where Aman Govekar (Don Bosco HS, Panjim), Oscar D’Souza (OLPS, Cortalim), Akshat Adkonkar (Don Bosco HS, Panjim) and Warren Pereira (Loyola HS) were selected by Brahmanand Sankhwalkar (Ex- Indian footballer and Arjuna Award) at the Agassaim Youth Club football ground, over the last two days.
They will be the part of 45 selected students who will be mentored by the specialized coaches.
All the 32 shortlisted schools were determined and displayed some enthusiastic talent. There were some standout performances by few teams like, Loyola High School, St Teresa High School, OLPS Cortalim, Don Bosco HS Panjim and Bal Bharati whose footballers played with passion, grit and determination as a unit.
The 32 selected schools from Goa were divided into eight groups, where each school played three matches in the group stage followed by the knock-outs, semi-finals and the final.
“The games we witnessed in last two days in Goa were thrilling and exhilarating. I would like to congratulate Young Heroes’ for taking up the initiative and promoting the game of football in the country.” Brahmanand stated.
