BENAULIM: Maina SC, Curtorim got the better of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda 5-2 to lift the 14th Super Soccer Cup organised by United Club of Benaulim, at Sao Joao Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Sunday.
Maina defender Savio Fernandes had the first long range shot at the Don Bosco goal but the ball hit the side netting in the first minute.
James Fernandes opened the account for Maina in the second minute. Three minutes later, Don Bosco striker Francis Andrade’s power-packed shot hit the cross bar of Maina and went out of play in the 16th minute.
In the 20th minute, James Fernandes made it 2-0 for Maina. Savio Fernandes made it 3-0. Three minutes later, Clive Colaco made it 4-0 for Maina.
Ashley Araujo and Roque Borges netted a goal each to make it 2-4 in the 36th and 40th minutes respectively for Don Bosco. With just three minutes left for the final whistle, Jovan Dias made it 5-2 for Maina.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 while the runners-up received Rs 30,000 plus trophies.
Churchill Alemao, MLA of Benaulim Constituency gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Anthony Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Colva, Diella Pereira, Sarpanch of VP Cana-Benaulim, Menino Fernandes, Dy Sarpanch of VP.Cana-Benaulim, Anthony Pango, GFA Executive member, other dignitaries and club officials.
