MARGAO: Mumbai Tigers quelled the spirited resistance of NRB Vasco Sports Club with a narrow 1-0 victory in a Group C Second Division I-League football match at Bangalore Stadium, Monday.
Mohammed Rafi scored the all-important goal in the opening session off a well executed pass by Thoi Singh.
Vasco held the upper hand and nearly struck the equalizer but Stephen Offei's try kissed the crossbar.
Mumbai Tigers’ goalkeeper Anup stood tall in protecting his citadel. Mumbai Tigers had a couple of scoring chances but their forwards muffed them.
After the break, Vasco looked to score equalizer but Anup was rock solid under the Mumbai bar.
With this win, Mumbai Tigers top the group with 10 points from four matches while Southern Samity are placed second with 10 points but with an inferior goal average. Vasco suffered their first defeat and have seven points from four matches.
