Murgao HS take home President Shield

PANJIM: Murgao High School, Sada-Vasco defeated St Joseph's Institute by 13 runs in the final to emerge champions in the 34th President Shield cricket tournament played at Chicalim sports ground, recently.

Murgao High School won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 107 runs losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Chandan Shukla 27 and Akash Mallah 36 were the top scorers.  Anish Verlekar took two wickets whereas Nirav Desai and Harsh Naik took one wicket each.
In reply, St Joseph’s Institute managed to score only 94 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Anish Verlekar 13, Vedant Naik 21 and Harsh Naik 19 were the scorers.
Vikas Saroj claimed three wickets while Akash Mallah and Prince Yadav took two wickets each.
Chief guest Krishna Salkar awarded the winners and runners-up trophies along with the rolling shield.
Individual prizes are: Best bowler Vedant Naik (St Joseph’s Institute), Best batsman Gauresh Kambli (Vidyamandir High School), Best fielder Anish Verlekar (St Joseph’s Institute), Man-of-the-Match Akash Mallah (Murgao HS) and Man-of-the-Series Akash Mallah (Murgao HS).
Earlier, Headmaster Avito Fernandes welcomed while Bina Sarkar introduced the guests. Ramchandra Naik compered and Jagdish Naik, secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.
