VERNA: Murgopoi Boys defeated Old Mardol 4-3 via tie-breaker to lift the Holy Cross Youth Trophy in the 7-a-side Veterans football tournament organized by the Parish Youth of Holy Cross Church, Verna, at Verna church ground, recently.
Roy Lobo opened the account for Mugruppoi in the 7th minute while Francis Calado doubled the lead in the 19th minute.
Aresenio Pereira converted on a thunderous penalty kick for Old Mardol in the 24th minute.
Later, Anthony Fernandes of Mardol got the deflection of rival defender as the strike sailed in the rival nets to level terms in 46th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker Murgopoi netted through Conceocao Abranches and Johnson while old Mardol netted through Anthony Fernandes.
Fr.Benjamin was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of other dignitaries
In all 11 wards participated the winners were awarded Rs 5000 plus trophy and runners-up took home Rs 3000 plus trophy.
