MARGAO: Mydon Menezes’ hat-trick helped Mount Mary’s High School, Chinchinim edged past Rosary High School, Navelim 4-2 in the semi-final to book the final berth in the Chinchinim Villagers Juniors Cup under-14 All Goa inter-school football tournament organized by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at Chinchinim church ground, on Wednesday.
Mount Mary’s High School were leading 1-0 at the lemon break.
Mount Mary’s HS banking on home crowd support opened the scoring in the 10th minute with the efforts of Mydon after receiving a cross from Jolan Simoes.
Rosary HS missed an opportunity in the 14th minute to equalise when Velton Fernandes’ shot was saved by rival goalkeeper. Julius Ferrao assisted.
Crossing over, Mount Mary’s HS dominated the proceedings with Mydon playing with a strategy. In the 41st minute, Mydon doubled the lead through a header off well-connect cross from Nesil Pinto.
Rosary HS reduced the margin in the 43rd minute through Naisco Fernandes’s grounder.
Mydon with a solo effort was again on target in the 45th minute for Mount Mary’s when his header off a cross from Aron Carvalho settled into the net to compete his hat-trick.
Rosary HS in the 47th minute scored 2-4 through Veztoal Fernandes.
Confident Mount Mary’s HS later were too good with their football skills and in the dying minutes of the game, Mydon with his powerful shot scored the fourth goal with an assist from Melroy Fernandes.
