MAJORDA: A hat-trick by Aulon Gomes helped Navelim Villagers Union beat Betalbatim SC 4-2 in the final to emerge champions in the 27th St. Rock’s Super Soccer organized by St Rock’s Youth Club in memory of Urbano Gonsalves, at St Rock’s ground, Calata-Majorda, on Sunday.
In the first half, Navelim Villagers Union were leading 3-0. A hat-trick by Aulon was the highlight of the final. Navelim Villagers Union through Aldrich Coelho and Aulon created moves upfront to score the goals while Betalbatim SC made attempts through Klinsman Pereira and Ricky Fernandes.
Aulon scored the first goal in the 10th minute with a rasping shot off Aldrich’s connect. Klinsman wasted an open chance in the 12th minute after receiving a pass from Austin Fernandes.
Anil Shivolkar doubled the lead for Navelim Villagers Union in the 19th minute. Aulon scored the third in the 39th minute.
Crossing over, Manushan Fernandes reduced the margin for Betalbatim SC in the 41st minute.
In the 43nrd minute, match referee Raja flashed red card to Bernardo Rodrigues of Betalbatim SC for retaliation in the 42nd minute as the defender of Navelim Villagers Union handled the ball in their own territory. Raja awarded a penalty to Betalbatim SC which was converted by Klinsman in the 50th minute. Later, Aulon completed his hat-trick to make it 4-2.
The winners were awarded Rs 40, 000 plus trophy while runners-up will take home Rs 30,000 plus trophy.
The following individual prizes were awarded: Promising player of the tournament Filbert Pereira (St. Rock YC), Best defender of the final Frazier Rogtao (Betalbatim SC), First scorer of final and Man of the final Aulon Gomes (Navelim Villagers), Best goalkeeper of the final Dalwin Costa (Navelim Villagers), Best half of final Klusner Pereira (Betalbatim SC), Best forward of the final Anil Shivolkar (Navelim Villagers).
Francisco Xavier Pacheco, MLA of Nuvem constituency was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Tessie Gonsalves, daughter-in-law of late Urban Gonsalves, who presided over and daughter Ilma Baptista.
