VELIM: Navelim Villagers scored a solitary goal victory over Maina SC, Curtorim to clinch the SWC Zaino Trophy in the final of SWC Zaino Soccer all-Goa football tournament played at Zaino ground, Velim, on Sunday.
Both the teams displayed an attacking as well as defensive game. Aulon Gomes of Navelim Villagers would have found the ball at the back of the net but he shot wide in the 20th minute.
Immediately, Alvito Colaco’s header missed the Maina SC net in the 23rd minute.
Goalkeeper Johnson Bhogot of Maina SC brought in some good saves in the 47th and 50th minutes.
It was Sandy Colaco, who scored the match winner in the dying minutes of the second half.
The winners pocketed Rs 40,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000 plus trophy.
The following individual prizes were awarded: Best players Alvito Colaco and Aulon Gomes, best goalkeeper Johnson Bhogot, first scorer of the final Sandy Colaco.
Fr Bruno Leitao, manager, St Anthony SC, Monte de Gurim was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Velim Constituency MLA Benjamin Silva, Melwyn Sanches, sarpanch of V.P. Velim and panch member Savio Fernandes.
On the occasion, Isha Viegas was felicitated for securing 95 per cent marks in the ICSE exam.
Lewis Andrade welcomed while Gurudas Kudalkar proposed the vote of thanks.
