BETALBATIM: Navelim Villagers Union beat Rossman Cruz, Nagoa-Verna by a solitary goal to lift the late Joao Francisco and Luiza Pacheco Cup organised by Betalbatim SC, at Betalbatim Panchayat ground, on Sunday.
Navelim’s Americo Rodrigues sent in a long ball to Jaison Martins but the latter’s move was foiled by Rossman’s Clive Coelho in the tenth minute.
In the 16th minute, Rossman through Josly Moniz should have netted but the latter’s shot was saved by Navelim keeper Selvin Gomes.
In the second half, Rossman through Savio Fernandes and Josly Moniz should have netted on several occasions but the Navelim keeper did a commendable job under the Navelim bar.
It was Danstan Fernandes who scored the match-winner for Navelim in the 67th minute with a placement shot. The winners were awarded Rs 50,000 while the runners-up received Rs 40,000 plus trophies.
Adv Radharao Gracias was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Dr Jorson Fernandes, Viola Pacheco, Fr Pascoal Afonso, parish priest of Betalbatim, Constancio Miranda Sarpanch of Betalbatim, Micky Pacheco Ex-Tourism minister and other dignitaries.
