SANGUEM:  After missing several deadlines, the stage is set for the inauguration of the spacious Sanguem Municipal Administrative building on August 30.
Constructed under the Golden Jubilee Fund allocated to the SMC during the Golden Jubilee celebration of Goa’s Liberation Day, the new building was expected to be inaugurated last year. However, due to technical flaws in the building process by the contractor, the same could not be inaugurated in time. Outgoing chairperson Suryadatt Naik too failed in his efforts to get clearance from Town and Country Planning Department, Quepem earlier this year.
However, Romualdo Fernandes soon after being elected as the SMC Chairperson managed to overcome the hurdles in getting the clearances from the TCP department.
Fernandes informed that the process of shifting the files, tables and other office stationery is in process and will be completed in due course of time.
The new building has a special conference room for the councillors in addition to individual cabins for the Chief Officer, Municipal Engineer, Chairperson and other staff.
The ground floor has shops most of which will be allocated to the shop owners who earlier occupied spaces in the old municipal building.
It is pertinent to note here that the shifting of the SMC office to the new complex will now pave way for the opening of individual offices of Land and Survey Department and Deputy Collector Office in Sanguem.
