MAPUSA: Nerul Sports Club managed to hold Silver Sand Sports Club to a 2-2 draw in the GFA’s U-16 tournament, at Duler stadium, here, on Wednesday.
Nerul should have taken the lead in the 17th minute when Kamlesh was brought down inside the penalty box by Desmond and the refereee awarded a penalty. However, Injamamul shot hit the post.
Minutes later, Silver Sand striker Inacio’s header went just over the crossbar while Nerul’s Anish missed an open sitter.
Nerul missed another glorious chance to take the lead when Kamlesh had just the rival keeper to beat but shot wide.
In the last quarter of the match before the breather, Silver Sand colts dominated but failed to score.
At the very start of the second session, Simon sent a perfect cross to Aaron but his strike was saved by the Nerul keeper.
Finally, in the 51st minute a poor clearance by Silver Sand keeper hit the back of Aliston who in turn tapped the ball into the goal.
Just six minutes later Silver Sand levelled terms from a combined move between Inacio and Desmond to find Desmond score.
At the hour break, Silver Sand forged ahead when Aaren scored with his individual brilliancy to make it 2-1.
In the 64th minute, Kamlesh sent a perfect ball to Aayush but the latter missed an open sitter.
However, in the 67th minute Nerul were awarded a penalty when Silver Sand skipper Desmond handled the ball where Prajyot scored to make it 2-2.
