MARGAO: Nuvem Sports Club trounced Chandor Club 3-1 to advance into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Curtorim Gymkhana Golden Jubilee Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, at church ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday. Nuvem led 3-0 at half time.
Nuvem were superior and their forwards showed urgency in the rival citadel. Their efforts bore the fruit in the 10th minute when Schubert Colaco slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Spurred by the early success, Nuvem intensified their attacks and pushed their opponents on the back-foot. John Dias doubled the lead when he bulged the net in the 17th minute off an intelligent through ball from Sellino Dias. Richard Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt when he slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a stiff grounder before the lemon break.
Crossing over, Nuvem slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to launch barrage of attacks and succeeded in reducing the deficit after Ivon Pinto punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
After reducing the margin, Chandor Club went into the attacking mode but rival defenders marshalled by John Dias did not allow any openings.
