When I am writing this news, I am as much confused as the six franchisees participating in GPL2 and they have every reason to.
In the latest development late last night, GCA officials dashed phone calls to different franchisees giving them the news that their outstation players would not be allowed to play in the GPL until and unless they bring the NOC from their respective associations.
Some of the officials of GCA tried their level best to convince the Dempo management  who were furious over the issue as they were told only 12 hours before the match and it wasn’t possible to get any players from other States.
It was really nice to see Prashant Kakode play in the final eleven of Dempo and claim three wickets, thus proving a point to the organizers when all was in a mess. The same could be the state of other franchisees tomorrow as well.
In the second match last year’s winners Salgaocar were the victims of the latest happenings.
In the morning, Dempo won the toss and elected to bat. Rohit Sabharwal played the crucial knock of 47 runs to take the tally to 133. Dempo, with the departure of star player Swapnil Asnodkar early couldn’t achieve the target thus falling short by 41 runs. Kakode showed that fitness alone doesn’t fetch results but that one has to have a big heart too.
In the second match Al Fatah, batting first set a decent target of 140. Chasing the target after losing early wickets, Salgaocar fell short by 19 runs. Shadab Jakati scored a swashbuckling 54 not out and rightfully deserved the man-of-the match award.
Day two will see GSA take on Sarvodaya in the morning session. It needs to be seen how much these two teams have been affected by the outstation players fiasco. As I am ending this column many outstation players of different teams would have already flown out of the State may be never to play in Goa again.
MechVac Fabricators 133 for 8 (Rohit Sabarwal 47, Amit Yadav 24 not out. Prashant Kakode 3-23, Shailesh Miskin 2-22). Dempo 92 for 9 (Swapnil Asnodkar 1, Keenan Vaz 16, Yeshwant Raikar 16 not out. Shashank Rao 3-19, Saurabh Bandekar 2-19, Amit Yadav 2-14, Ganeshraj Narvekar 2-12).
Al Fatah 139 for 9 (Sher Bahadur Yadav 28, Saheel Dhuri 22. Shadab Jakati 3-21, Advait Katakr 3-24). Salgaocar 120 all out (Shadab Jakati 54 not out, Suraj Dhongre 23. Saheel Dhuri 2-22).
Meanwhile as there was very poor sale of tickets the GCA announce that the entry will be free.
