MAPUSA: Penha de Franca Sports Club and Panjim Footballers played out a goalless draw in the GFA’s First Division League match played at Duler Stadium, here on Friday.
In their first leg meeting, Panjim Footballers got the better of Penha de Franca 2-1.
After Monday’s match Panjim Footballers are second on the league table with 26 points from 12 matches, while Penha de Franca are on third position with 25 points from 13 matches.
In a equally fought battle it was Penha de Franca who had the first crack at the rival goal when in the third minute Raju Padoshi made a brilliant run into the rival citadel only to see his blistering right footer being pushed away by Panjim keeper Akshat Hadkonkar.
Penha keeper Adney Fernandes too proved apt for the task as he parried Alston Camotio’s curling free-kick.
After some midfield action Panjim once again came attacking when Daryl Costa ran up the right flank and flashed a vicious cross across the Penha goal area, however defender Vivek Kanulkar came with a firm clearance before any damage could be done.
Keeper Adney came with two brilliant saves, first to block Akira Martins in a one-to-one situation and then once again to deny the striker from scoring from inside the danger zone.
Changing ends, Daryl had a glorious chance to break the deadlock for Panjim, however the U-20 lad faltered from handshaking distance.
Towards the fag end of the match referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar gave marching orders to Penha de Franca’s Sanmil DCosta for double booking.
At Sirsaim ground, Milind Shinde scored the only goal of the match in the 76th minute to help Goa Police SC stun Sesa FA 1-0.
