CALANGUTE: Penha de Franca edged past Candolim Sports Club 5-3 via the tie-breaker after holding them to a 1-1 draw to emerge champions of Pilerne Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Pilerne Sports Club at Pilerne ground, Sunday.

Candolim forged ahead in the 15th minute through Sigmund Silveira.

Down by a goal, Penha de Franca went all-out and restored parity in the 45th minute through Fraser Fernandes.

Both the teams thereafter came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forwards failed to find the net.

In the resultant tie-breaker, the Penha boys kept their cool to romp home victorious. Seby Fernandes, Parshuram Kinelkar, Melvyn Rodrigues and Fraser Fernandes scored for Penha while Bapu Pednekar and Paul Cardozo netted for Candolim.
