PANJIM: Ponda emerged winners of the Sanguem Premier League Super 4 cricket tournament, organised by Sanguem Warriors, defeating Sanquelim in the final played at Ajman ground, in UAE, recently.
Batting first, Sanquelim set a target of 38 runs in allotted 4 overs with Praveen Achariya top scoring for Sanquelim.
In reply, Ponda chased down the target with some nasty hitting from Arif Muzawar in 3.3 overs.
Earlier in the semi-finals, Ponda defeated Valpoi while Sanquelim defeated Panjim.
The tournament witnessed a huge Goan crowd in UAE.
Eight Goan teams, settled in UAE, participated in SPL season 5 such as Vasco, Margao, Sanguem, Ponda, Valpoi, Mapusa, Sanquelim and Panjim.
Farid Khan was the chief guest for the final and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Sayed Yakub, Fayaz Shaikh, Moshin Khan, Aslam Shah, Salim Shaikh, Sajid Mulla, Feroz Shaikh, Riyaz Khan, Rizwan Shah (SPL chairman) and Aslam Shaikh (SPL commissioner).
Panjim bagged the third place while Valpoi got the best discipline team award.
