MAPUSA: Portais Sporting Club registered their second victory on the trot in as many matches as they edged out a tough Sateri Sports Club 2-1, in GFA’s Third Division League, Ilhas zone, at Dr Remigio Pinto ground, Taleigao, on Wednesday.
The winners took eight minutes to take the lead as Atish Sawant gave finishing touches to a pass from Peter.
Thereafter, Portais continued to attack but rival keeper Rupesh Kunkolkar put up an excellent performance under the sticks to leave the Portais strikers frustrated.
Post resumption, Sateri raised their tempo with hard-working Vinod creating waves in the midfield. The equalizer eventually arrived in the 59th minute after Mayur was brought down by Portais keeper Anant Adkonkar inside the danger zone as the match referee pointed out to the dreaded spot.
Off the resultant penalty, Vinod converted with ease, 1-1.
The match became frantic in the final quarter as the teams worked tirelessly for the match-winner which came on favour of Portais. A dangerous in-swinging flag-kick by Elton saw the ball sail over the opposition defenders and found skipper Paulo Joao, who headed in past the rival keeper, 2-1.
