PANJIM: Prachi Kerkar won a bronze medal in the 75 kg weight category at the ongoing Junior Women’s Boxing Nationals that is underway at Rohtak, Haryana.
Having won against Reetika from Uttar Pradesh, she lost her semi-finals bout by a TKO (Technical Knock Out) in the third round to Diksha from Punjab.
Speaking after her bout, Prachi, a standard XI Commerce student from St Xavier’s HSS said, “I could have done better. My opponent was also an experienced boxer who tried to confuse me a lot with her game.” Prachi who has been boxing for the past three years said that this was a good experience at the Nationals and now is in a better position to up her game.
SAG coach Chitambaram Naik said, “There were several split decisions which weren’t given in our favour. For our Goan girls this was a good very good performance as two girls advanced to the third round after playing two bouts each. Others, who lost by a very close margin.”
