CALANGUTE: PVC Association, Parra shocked Saligao Sporting Club 2-1 to move into the semi-finals of 5th Saligao United Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Saligao United at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, Wednesday.
Parra forged ahead in the fifth minute when Joaquim Pacheco found the back of the net with a header after taking of advantage a defensive lapse.
Stung by the reverse, Saligao went all-out in search of the equalizer and came close to scoring in the 20th minute but Uday Naik’s shot sailed inches over.
Parra doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Atish Mirajkar headed home a Virgilio Lobo free-kick. Virgilio almost made it 3-0 in the closing minutes of first half but his try hit the crossbar and went out.
Changing over, Saligao forwards exerted pressure on the Parra defense in search of a goal. Ajay Diwadkar’s try was fisted away by Parra goalkeeper Rohit Pinto in the 45th minute. Abhijit Gaunekar reduced the margin for Saligao off Uday Naik.
