Panjim, March 12 : Public Works Department beat Directorate of Health Services by 30 runs to reach the finals of State Level Civil Services Cricket Tournament organised by DSYA at Chicalim Sports Complex.
Put into bat, PWD put up a respectable 166/3 in their allotted 20 overs with useful contribution from Mahesh Gawande who made 17. The highlight of the innings though was a 96-run 3rd wicket partnership between half-centurions Umesh Naik (64 in 41 balls) and Naresh Parsekar (54 not out in 36 balls).
DHS kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and could muster only 136/7 with Vijay making 40 and Vishal 37. A fine all-round display by Umesh Naik (3/21) and Naresh Parsekar (3/27) helped the PWD not only to register a convincing 30-run victory but also avenge last year’s loss to the DHS. Umesh Naik and Naresh Parsekar were both jointly awarded the man-of-the match award for their fine all-round display. PWD will meet RCS in the finals.
Earlier, PWD beat Directorate of Agriculture by 31 runs to reach the semi-finals.
Put in to bat, PWD started briskly putting on 62 runs in the first seven overs, before losing their first wicket, with handy contributions from Nilesh Parsekar (40 in 36 balls) and Mahesh Gawande (36 in 28 balls). Yeshwant Jawwaji (12 in 8 balls) and Someshwar Adpaikar (19 in 12 balls) helped PWD to reach 153 in their allotted 20 overs.
Vinod was the pick of the bowlers for Agriculture Dept claiming 3/20, while Deepak picked up 2 wickets.
Agriculture Dept, in a bid to keep up with the required run-rate, lost wickets at regular intervals and could muster only 122. Mayur Naik and Naresh Parsekar each picked up two wickets while Anil and Umesh picked one each.
Nilesh Parsekar was named man-of-the match.
