PANJIM: Parish Youth Nuvem edged past Saligao United Sports Club 2-1 to enter the quarter-final of 9th London Trophy, organized by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha ground, on Sunday. At half time PY Nuvem were leading 1-0.
Saligao started attackingly as Trevor Dias’ direct kick struck the PY Nuvem crossbar and went out of play.
Soon, Inacio stuck for Nuvem as he darted between two Saligao defenders for a Remy pass and beat Soma with a deft placement.
Next, Jerose let fly from a distance but Soma dived full length to collect the ball to safety.
Saligao United came with a string of passes and Abhijit set up Michael, who however shot out. Trevor sped down the left and crossed the ball for Abhijit, who volleyed over.
Soma blundered to give Standly the ball but the forward with a gaping goal pushed the ball out.
After the break, a free-kick was awarded to Nuvem had Remy stretching Soma for a fine save. At the other end, Trevor had veteran keeper Francis making a fine save off a direct kick off the resultant corner Govind floated the ball and Jaiganesh jumped high but his header just missed the Nuvem goal. Saligao had a flurry of chances but the Nuvem defenders somehow scrambled the ball out.
Jerose added one more goal for Nuvem, heading in a free-kick taken by Inacio. At the fag end Trevor reduced the margin for Saligao as his scorching shot went past Francis.
