RAIA: Parish Youth Nuvem defeated Chandor Club 5-4 via the tie breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 46th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting and played at Raia panchyat ground, on Saturday.
Chandor SC through Sunny Fernandes in the first minute should have found the ball at the back of Parish Youth Nuvem net but the rival keeper Joel Colaco saved it brilliantly. Nuvem through Jerose Oliveira took control of the ball and tried to get past the defenders but Chandor’s defender Justin Martin tackled his move.
As the match progressed Inacio Colaco floated ball to Jerose but Jerose was brought down by rival defender outside rival box as a result a free kick was awarded to the Nuvem side but Jerose couldn’t convert the opportunity as he missed by whiskers.
The score at half time was 0-0.
Post resumption, both the sides tried equally hard to try and get the match winner however their attempts were futile as the match ended in a goalless draw.
In the resultant tie-breaker Parish Youth Nuvem netted through Inacio Colaco, Schubert Colaco, Stephen Colaco, Standly D’Mello and Royan Alvares while Akram Yadwed, Benson Fernandes Jeston and D’sa scored for Chandor Club.
Parish Youth Nuvem will meet the winners of Verna SC and Raia Sporting in the quarter- finals on July 16.
