MARGAO: A superb hat trick by striker Queniston Dias enabled Ambelim Sports Club to coast a fluent 3-1 win over Navelim Sporting Club and advance into the quarter- finals of all-Goa Curtorim Gymkhana Golden Jubilee Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Curtorim Gymkhana, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Sunday. Ambelim Sports Club were leading 2-0 at half time.
Ambelim Sports Club held the upper hand in the opening session and pushed their opponents on the back-foot.
Ambelim Sports Club’s breakthrough came in the fifth minute when Queniston slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
Spurred by the early success, Ambelim Sports Club tormented the rival defence with well orchestrated raids as Queniston was in thick action and doubled the lead.
Navelim Sporting Club were a subdued lot and failed to function as a cohesive unit.
Queniston bulldozed the rival defence and beat the rival goalkeeper with a neat finish in the 45th minute of a pass from Richard Fernandes to register his hat-trick.
Down by three goals, Navelim Sporting Club exerted pressure and punted the ball to the far corner of the net at fag end of the match, 3-1.
