VASCO: Churchill Brothers coach Derrick Pereira  was delighted after the clubs astonishing 6-1 win over Chennai City FC, at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Saturday.
“After Churchill Brothers Football Club’s incredible 6-1 victory against Chennai City Football Club, the pressure of relegation is off,” remarked Churchill Brothers Football Club coach Derrick Pereira.
“We were under the threat of relegation and the pressure told on us initially. It was only after we scored the second goal in the 20th minute of the second half after we were level 1- 1, that the matters turned totally in our favour with the second booking against Chennai’s defender Anyichie Echezona which resulted in the player getting the red card making our task easier, the victory also made our place in the forthcoming Federation Cup sure,” added Derrick.
“Yes, the exit of main stopper back Anyichie enabled our team to have sway in the proceedings in the last 30 minutes in which we scored all the five goals. We were against 10-men Chennai and we took utmost advantage of the situation,” stated Derrick.
“There is no doubt that Chennai’s defence was virtually non-existent after their main defender Nigerian Anyichie was given the marching orders. It did help us a lot and that’s how we could run a big tally. We have a tough match against Bengaluru FC on April 29 in Bengaluru and I would motivate my players to raise their game, now that we are sure of our place in the league. Certainly we can play much better, and we need to improve further,” remarked Derrick.
