Reuban, Sayuri U-9 chess champs

PANJIM: Colaco Reuben ELO-1272 of Loyala High School, Margao won the U-9 State Chess Championship in the open category organised by Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Saraswath Caculo College, Khorlim-Mapusa jointly under the auspicious of Goa Chess association and SAG, at Anand Giri Keni Hall, Saraswart College, Khorlim, on Sunday.

PANJIM: Colaco Reuben ELO-1272 of Loyala High School, Margao won the U-9 State Chess Championship in the open category organised by Bardez Taluka Chess Association and Saraswath Caculo College, Khorlim-Mapusa jointly under the auspicious of Goa Chess association and SAG, at Anand Giri Keni Hall, Saraswart College, Khorlim, on Sunday. 
He scored highest seven points to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. He received championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs1,000.
In the girls category, Sayuri Suraj Naik of Eden Pre-Primary School, Mapusa won the U-9 State Chess Championship. She scored highest six points to remain unbeaten throughout the tournament. She received championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1,000.
Vivaan Sunil Ballikar of The Kings School, Margao and Ruthvi Gaude of St Merry High School, Ponda won the second prize in their respective category. They received trophies and a cash prize of Rs 700 each.
Paarth Prashant Salvi of Chubby Cheek Spring Valley School, Porvorim and Varada Vasant Naik of St Joseph High School, Vasco won the third prize in their respective category. They received trophies and a cash prize of Rs. 400.
First two winners from each category are now selected to participate in the 30th National U-9 boys and girls Championship to be held at Jalandhar, Punjab from August 22 to 30.
The remaining results from 4th to 8th in boys and girls are: Kakodkar Joy (Tiswadi), Pratik Borkar (Tiswadi), Aarush Pandey (Murmugao), Avish Naik (Salcete), Sairudra Nagvekar (Bardez) while in girls Srilaxmi Kamat (Ponda), Netra P Savaikar (Ponda), Girija A Pednekar (Bardez), Shriya Patil (Salcete), Keya Phadte (Tiswadi).
Joint Secretary of All India Chess Federation, Kishore Bandekar, was the chief guest, who gave away the prizes. Arvind Mhamal was the chief Arbiter of the tournament. While, Secretary of Bardez Taluka Chess Association, Suraj Naik compered the function and Joint Secretary, Dharmanand Sawant, gave the vote of thanks.
