CALANGUTE: Maddo Vaddo, Calangute squeezed past Khobra Vaddo, Calangute by a solitary goal to lift the 16th Aleixo Joao Menezes Memorial Cup of Calangute Veterans inter-ward football trophy played, at Calangute Association ground, on Sunday.
The only goal scored in the very first minute of play when Damian Silveira of Maddo Vaddo netted through a pass from Anton Xavier.
President of Calangute United Ambrosio D’Souza introduced the chief guest Fr Cipriano Da Silva and other dignitaries to the players.
The winners and runners-up were awarded cash prizes of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively plus trophies.
Other individual prizes are: Best disciplined team Naika Vaddo, Best goalkeeper of the tournament Anthony Silveira (Tivai Vaddo), Mr Fit Anton Xavier (Maddo Vaddo), first scorer of the final Damian Silveira (Maddo Vaddo), best defender of the final Satya Kalangutkar (Khobra Vaddo), best forward of the final Lawrence Fernandes (Maddo Vaddo) and best goalkeeper of the final Domnic Sieiro (Maddo Vaddo).
Other special invites for the final were GFA Executive Committee member Gajanan Kerkar, Ex-Salgaokar football player Digamber Haldankar, Sports Secretary of Calangute Association Marcelino Fernandes, General Secretary Fabiano De Souza and Sudesh Shirodkar. Javed Ahmed compered while Anthony Menezes proposed the vote of thanks.
