Rosary College emerge Varsity football champs

PANJIM: Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim scored a resounding 3-0 win over Dempo College to win the Inter-Collegiate Football Championship for Men, organised by Goa University at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.

All the three goals were scored in the second half.
Both teams featured some big names in their squad. Rosary featured FC Goa stars Liston Colaco, Aaren D’Silva, Sporting Clube and former Sesa FA keeper Ozen Silva while their opponents Dempo College had Sporting Clube’s Akeraj Martins, former Dempo SC youth product Salu Santos and others.
The first half was evenly contested; however, the only real chance of the game fell to Dempo College just before the break but Rosary keeper Ozen Silva pulled off stunning save to keep his team into the game. There was no score at the break.
Changing ends, Rosary College came stongly and almost scored the lead when Liston dribbled past rival keeper, only to see his shot miss the target from a tight angle.
Rosary didn’t take long to score when Jasper Perranporth played a long aerial pass to Aaren, who latched on to a powerful strike to make it, 1-0.
At the hour mark, Leny Fernandes doubled the account off Cliffon Barbon assist. The goal killed the game for Dempo College, who played their hearts out infront of hundreds of spectators.
Joan Dias made the issues safe for his side scoring in the 72nd minute after Liston made the initial spadework. Liston and Aaren displayed great skills for Rosary College.Gautam was outstanding for his team in the midfeild.
