MAJORDA: Rossman Cruz SC Nagoa emerged winners of the 20th Fr. Basilio Andrade Memorial football tournament as they defeated St. Sebastian YC Fatorda 1-0, at Musson ground, Majorda, on Sunday.
The all-important goal was secored by Imam Sab in the 40th minute of the second half.
The match began on a fast pace as both the teams pressied hard to get a goal as the ball rolled from one end to the other. The teams dished out good brand of football giving pleasing moment to the large crowd gathered to witness the match.
Rossman Cruz striker Savio Fernandes and midfielder Clifton Rebello were good while Mackwin Soares and Christopher Borges gave a good account of themselves for the Fatorda team.
Rossman Cruz SC attacking medio Mayron Fernandes had an attempt at the rival goal but the Fatorda keeper Swizel Periera shaky collection gave ample chance to Iman Sab to score the vital goal which ultimately turned out to be the match winner.
The winners were awarded Rs 40,000 plus trophy while the runners-up had to be content with Rs 30,000 and a trophy.
Manohar Azjgoankar, Dy. Chief Minister & Sports Minister was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Antonio Fernandes. MLA, St Cruz Constituency, Wilfred D’Sa and Aditya Shet Navelkar, Br. Manager, Bank of Baroda and other dignitaries.
