RAIA: Ayaan Shaikh emerged victorious in an enthralling men’s singles final defeating Nishant Shenai 21-19, 28-26 in State badminton ranking tournament organised by BPS Sports Club at Navelim, Sunday.
Ayaan maintained his composure in the closing stages of both sets to seal an exciting victory and clinch his maiden title.
Sakshi K dominated the first set in women’s singles final at 14-8, facing off against top seed Janhavi Mahale. In an unfortunate turn of events, Janhavi had to retire due to an injury, handing the victory to Sakshi K who displayed exceptional skills throughout the tournament, claiming four titles. Sakshi’s other wins came in girls singles U-17 and U-19 and in U-17 mixed doubles.
The men’s doubles final witnessed Arjun Fallary and Tejan Fallary putting on a remarkable performance against Parag Chauhan and Sushil Nayak. The Fallary Brothers won 21-15, 21-14.
In the mixed doubles final, Tejan partnered with Lydia Barreto to take on Aryaman Saraf and Nidhi Desai winning 21-19, 21-14 win.
In the boys U-11 singles, Michael Mare faced a tough challenge from Neil Punjani Bakshi. Nevertheless, Michael showcased tremendous determination and skill, winning 15-13, 15-7. Avni Khyalia delivered a dominant performance in the girls U-11 singles final against Pragya Audi, winning 15-6, 15-3.
The U-13 boys final proved to be a thrilling contest between Sparsh Kolwalkar and Ansh Chaurasia. Sparsh emerged victorious 25-27, 21-15, 21-6. Aaryaa Metry showcased her skills in an intense battle against Anaya Kamat in the U-13 girls singles final winning 21-15, 16-21, 21-18.
Aarush Pawaskar and Ritika Chheluri emerged U-15 boys and girls singles winners in contrasting wins. While Aarush registered a dominant 21-9, 21-14 win over Advait Balakrishnan, Ritika emerged victorious after an intense battle against Shivanjali Thite winning 21-19, 10-21, 21-17.
Harsh Mane and Shaheen C K displayed exceptional coordination and skills in the U-17 boys doubles final, defeating Arjun Bhagat and Yash Desai 21-18, 21-19.
Harsh showcased his determination in the U-17 boys singles final against Yash Desai, securing the title with a score of 21-18, 21-17. Arjun Bhagat secured the U-19 boys singles title defeating Parth Joshi 21-10, 21-16. Ashmeet Parsekar and Yash Desai excelled in Boys U-19 doubles, with a impressive 21-14 21-19 win over Parth Joshi and Shrijay Naik.
While Sakshi K won a quadruple crown, Harsh Mane, Shaheen C.K, Aarush Pawaskar, Sparsh Kolwalkar, Advait Balakrishnan, Nidhi Desai, Tejan Fallary and Ritika Chheluri were the other standout players of the day, securing double crowns each.
