MAPUSA: Twice down by a goal, Salgaocar Football Club did well to hold Dempo Sports Club to a 2-2 draw in the U-18 I-League, played at Duler stadium, Mapusa, on Saturday.
In their first leg encounter it was Salgaocar who returned home with a 2-0 win.
Despite two of Goa’s stalwarts playing today’s match, there was hardly any turnout for the encounter.
Dempo SC got into the scoring act right in the 2nd minute of play when Boris Jesus De Melo snatched the ball from Salgaocar’s Flagan Rodrigues before firing home a powerful right footer, giving no chance to the keeper to make it 1-0.
Salgaocar did not waste any time and responded with the equalizer in the very next minute of play when Liston Colaco seeing the keeper off his line unleashed a long floater which landed into the far end of the Dempo goal, 1-1.
There on both the sides adapted to midfield tactics, hardly testing the rival keepers for the rest of the session.
Crossing over, Dempo once again started with a bang when in the opening minute itself Ivon Costa sent a pinpoint pass to Kapil Hoble who sent the ball inside the Salgaocar goal area to Aaron Rodrigues whose placing shot caught keeper Nora on the wrong foot, 2-1.
Liston for Salgaocar who scored a penalty saw his blistering shot brush Nestor Dias legs before entering the goal, 2-2.
