Salgaocar FC Jrs, ICSC Paroda qualify for State play-offs

PANJIM: ICSC Paroda edged Salgaocar FC Juniors 2-1 in the GFA 2nd Division play-off match played at Navelim ground, on Monday. Stephen Fernandes was the lone goal scorer for the Greens, while Ibon D’Costa and Elloy Soares netted for ICSC Paroda.

The first half started with the Greens in high gear. They had their first clear look at the goal within two minutes from the kick off when a Harmanjot Singh free kick curled perfectly into a flooded Paroda box but failed to find the Green shirt at its end.
Just in the next two minutes, the Greens managed to make the pressure count as Samson Furtado send in a good ball from the corner to pick Saurabh Patil, who served it perfectly to a flying Stephen, who calmly headed it past Presley Mascarenhas to put the Vasco side ahead.
After this the game was well poised as both the teams created a few chances but failed to convert any. In the 43rd minute, Ibon of ICSC Paroda launched himself in the air beating his marker to put things on level.
The scores were level at the halftime.
The second half saw the teams trying to get the early goal but some good defence at both ends kept the ball away from either net.
At the hour mark, ICSC Paroda launched a counter to send in a long ball finding Elloy in a dangerous position who beat his marker to head it past Rohan Viegas putting them ahead.
Towards the closing stages the Greens notched up a few lethal attacks but couldn’t break down the ICSC Paroda defence.
The best opportunity for Salgaocar FC Juniors came in the 80th minute when Saurabh Patil smartly sent in a low free kick, the ICSC Paroda keeper Presley made a desperate attempt just managing to get his finger tips enough to deny the Greens the much needed equalizer.
Though Salgaocar FC Juniors lost they qualified for the State play-offs along with ICSC Paroda.
