Salgaocar FC Juniors maintains top spot

MAPUSA: Unbeaten Salgaocar FC Juniors were held to a goalless draw by A.A.de Moira SC in the GFA’s First Division League-Bardez Zone, at Duler stadium, here on Thursday.

Salgaocar Juniors stays on top of the league table with nine points from five matches while Moira colts, has 4 points from four matches.

It was Moira that had the first crack at the rival goal in the fifth minute but Macbon Fernandes’ header off Jeite Koireng sailed just over the crossbar.

At the other end, Salgaocar’s Shaviz Pathan moved inside the Moira’s 18-yard box and drilled a stiff grounder which travelled just past the far goal post.

Salgaocar almost scored in the 10th minute but it was Moira’s custodian who brought a breath taking save to deny U-20 Beckham Dias in one-on-one situation.

The Green Brigade lads had two more chances to take the lead but a fierce shot from Shaviz Pathan brushed the leg of rival defender for a corner, while a weak effort from substitute Tanesh Kankonkar was collected by Moira custodian Moin Mansuri.

On resumption of play, the teams mostly restricted to midfield tussle. However, a power-packed left footer from Shivnath Dangu was brilliantly pushed for a corner by Salgaocar’s goalkeeper Harshad Rathod with a full stretched diving save.

Minutes later, once again Harsad was in action to collect Sloawn Clemente’s efforts.

Salgaocar too had a couple of chances but Sevon Costa and Aditya Talwar’s goal bound strikes were collected by Moira custodian.

At Guirim ground, St. Savio’s SC managed to register a solitary goal win over GENO FC.

The all important goal for the winners came in the 76th minute through the boots of Prajyot Kerkar.

At Salvador do Mundo ground, Candolim SC registered a fluent 3-1 win over St Anthony’s SC Marna.
