PANJIM: Salgaocar FC overpowered Panjim Footballers 5-0 in their own back yard in the GFA 1st Division match in Panjim.
It was a very intense fight from the start where both teams were high in attack and did well in the defence.
It looked to be a close battle between the two sides, but in the 37th minute a Salgaocar Juniors counter attack saw Panjim Footballers goalkeeper clear the ball only to find the face of his own defender, deflected into their own nets, 1-0.
Salgaocars kept the pressure on the Panjim citadel and their efforts paid off when Lalit Tariyal dribbled his way past the defenders and set up Devendra Murgaokar to make it 2-0in the 45th minute. Salgaocar led 2-0 at the break.
The second half saw Panjim Footballers attack from both flanks but the Salgaocar Juniors defenders stood tall.
The main playmaker of the day Samuel Costa of the Greens caused a lot of problems for the home side. It was in the 68th minute, when Lalit was brought down in the box by the keeper. Samuel Costa stepped up for the penalty and converted by placing the ball into the far right of the goal, 0-3.
Panjim were awarded a penalty when the ball struck a Salgaocar defender, but Panjim did not make full use of the only chance they had at their opponents as they shot the ball miles above the cross bar.
When everything seemed done and dusted, Samuel blasted home from the edge of the box to score his second and the teams in the 90th minute, 0-4.
And just as the match came to a close Stephen Satarkar was set up by Jason Barbosa to make it 0-5.
