CALANGUTE: Saligao Sporting Club trounced Friends XI, Vaddem 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals of 5th Saligao United Cup All-Goa Inter-Village football tournament organised by Saligao United at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Friday.
Saligao began on an attacking note and could have forged ahead in the 5th minute but Denzil Sequeira brought off a goalline save off Videsh Satardekar. Videsh put Saligao ahead in the 12th minute off Raul D’Mello.
Ajit Diwadker doubled the lead in the 15th minute off Mathew Dias. Saligao could have gone 3-0 up in the 20th minute but Bibian Fernandes missed a sitter. Dwayne Ticlo reduced the margin for Vaddem in the 23rd minute off Datarram.
Changing over, Vaddem tried hard to score and came close to scoring but Brendon failed to find the net. Saligao scored two quick goals in the 55th and 60th minutes through Abhijit Gaunekar and N. Shaikh.
