MAPUSA: Saligao Sporting Club breezed past Candolim Sports Cup 5-3 via the tie-breaker to lift 4th Milagres Trophy football organized by Milagres Sports Club, Mapusa at Duler Stadium, here, Tuesday. The score was 1-1 at full time.

Saligao started attackingly and surged ahead in the 10th minute after Candolim goalkeeper Marshal Simoes failed to judge Saligao’s Uday Naik’s dangerous cross from the left flank which found teammate Mathew, who tapped the ball in with ease.
Candolim tried hard in search of the equalizer and restored parity in the second session with only five minutes to go for the final whistle. Candolim’s Manuel’s flag-kick was powerfully headed towards goal by Jolief Simoes but Saligao custodian Jaison D’Mello fumbled in his collection as the ball fell to Stanley D’Silva, who made no mistake from close range.
In the penalty shoot-out, Bibiano, Nester, Sheikh and Videsh scored for Saligao while only Manuel and Stanley converted for Candolim.
Other prizes — Best goalkeeper: Marshal Simoes (Candolim SC). Best defender: Ajit Diwadkar (Saligao Sporting). Best midfielder: Bibiano Fernandes (Saligao Sporting). Best forward: Mathew (Saligao Sporting). Best player of the tournament: Jolief Simoes (Candolim SC).
Chief guest Hanumant Toraskar, chief officer, Mapusa Municipal Council gave the winners trophy and cash prize of Rs 30,000 to Saligao Sporting while Lavinio Rebello, GFA vice-president (North) gave the runners-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 20,000 to Candolim SC.
Individual prizes were given by GFA executive members Babli Mandrekar and Gajanand Kerkar. Fr Caetano Fernandes and Salvador Fernandes were among those present.
