Avertano unveils host of projects for Navelim

MARGAO: Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado on Wednesday unveiled his plans to implement a host of development projects in Navelim, including a three-km long bypass linking Rawanfond and NH-17 to ease traffic congestion near the Navelim church.

Addressing a gathering at Mandopa-Navelim after inaugurating an overhead water tank and improvement of water supply scheme, Avertano said that the bypass road would be taken up for construction after completing the land acquisition proceedings. 

He said that two over head water tanks will be built at Sinquetim and housing Board in Navelim constituency to streamline water supply, he disclosed plans to build a four-storey Rosary school building, which will house both the high school and higher secondary. 

“Development might have been slow in the last one year because of the host of problems faced by the government. I was also new and needed time to study. But, there will be no looking back now. I have proposed many projects, including upgradation of the football grounds at Mandopa, a joggers track, besides a recreation centre,” he added.

In his address, Navelim sarpanch Frank Fernandes thanked the Minister for inaugurating the water supply scheme, saying it would go a long way in improving water supply to Mandor and Dongri areas.

Local villager George Barretto called upon the people to join hands to usher in the development of Navelim and its people.

Work on the project had commenced on December 13, 2009 at a cost of Rs 2.15 lakh and would serve around 5300 population in the areas of Cottocamoll, part of Firgulem, St Pedtomoll, Espimoddi, new colony, Mandopa, Moddi, Gaonkar Moddi, Apibhat, part of Dongorim and Ravora.
