MARGAO: Saligao Sporting Club sealed their place into the final of Mc Dowell No. 1 Soda Yaari Premier Soccer Cup, organized by Vagator PYSC, with a hard fought 2-1 win over St Anthony Sports Club, Marna-Siolim, at Ozran ground, Vagator, on Tuesday.
Saligao scored two quick goals in the 2nd and 14th minute of play, with St Anthony Sports Club side pulling one before the breather.
In the very 2nd minute of play Ajay Diwadkar sent a through pass to Mathias Dias, who drilled a power-packed shot from just outside the penalty box, 1-0.
Ajay, who was instrumental in the first goal, doubled the lead for Saligao in the 14th minute through brilliant solo effort, 2-0.
However, a long ranger by Sherwin Lobo hit the hand of Ajay, in the danger zone, prompting referee to point to the dreaded spot. Sherwin scored to get back St Anthony into the match, 2-1.
Crossing over, the teams had a chance each to further increase their lead. Saligao’s goal bound shot from Andrew sailed over the post, while St Anthony’s Rayan D’Souza latched a 40-yard shot which missed the target narrowly.
Saligao Sporting will take on host Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club in the final on November 30.
