MARGAO: Verna Sports Club downed St Anthony Sports Club, Colva 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-final of South Goa Zilla Parishad inter-village football tournament organized by Parish Youth, Nuvem at church ground, Nuvem, on Tuesday. Verna led 1-0 at the breather.
Verna held the upper hand in both the sessions and pushed their opponents on the back foot. Verna’s breakthrough came midway in the opening session when striker Santan Rego bulge the net.
After the resumption, Verna continued to enjoy the lion share of exchanges and trouble the rival defence with well orchestrated raids. Necdiade Moniz doubled the lead when he punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
