PANJIM: Sanquelim Eagles, Dubai won the Challengers Cup 2013 defeating Jolly Tiger Golden Team by 13 runs, organized by GWS Dubai at Zabeel Park cricket ground, Dubai, recently.
After winning the toss, Sanquelim Eagles opted to bat and scored 39 runs in four overs. Shoheb Shaik, Sher Khan, Iqbal Makandar,Yunus Shaikh, Feroz Aga and Irfan Sayed batted well.
Chasing a score of 40 to win, Jolly Tiger Golden Team managed to score only 26 runs in four overs. Sanquelim Eagles bowlers, Shoheb Shaik, Sher Khan, Feroz Aga and Gulfaraz Aga racked havoc on the opponents.
In the semi-finals, Sanquelim Eagles defeated Spartens while and Jolly Tiger Golden Team outplayed Valpoi SCC.
Chief guest Akbar Khan and GWS President Romeen Mulam and others gave away the prizes in presence of Sayed Yakub (president of Sanquelim Eagles), Parvez Ahmed Shaikh (president of Jolly Tiger Golden Team), Ferooz Amid Shiakh (president of Kakeez), Usman Mulla (POA chief), Riyaz Khan (finance controller of Zulfa) and Sayed Parvez Ahmed (chairman of SE).
The individual prizes are: Man-of-the-match in final Sher Khan (Sanquelim Eagles), man-of-the-tournament Shoheb Shaikh (Sanquelim Eagles), best batsman Naveed (Jolly Tiger Golden Team), Best bowler Javed Shaikh (Valpoi SCC)
Sanqulim Eagles squad: Sher Khan, Inus Shaikh (Captain), Feroz Aga, Shoheb Shaikh, Iqbal Makandar, Gulfaraz Aga, Irfan Sayed, Ashfaque Rajguru, Asif Aga, Altaf Shaik, Sayed Parvez Ahmed, Sameer Shah, Mohammed Fahad, Firdous Shaikh and Sayed Saif. Altogether, 16 Goan teams participated.
