CURCHOREM: Chief Secretary B Vijayan stated that to make plastic free Goa, government has proposed a scheme where plastic waste will be collected from all over the State and after converting it into pellets, it will be sold to cement companies in Karnataka.
He was speaking at an interactive meeting at Ravindra Bhavan hall, Curchorem, on Saturday. Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral, Director of Science and Technology Levinson Martins, Additional Collector of South Goa Venancio Furtado, Director of Panchayats Narayan Samant and Curchorem-Cacora Muncipal Council (CCMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes were present on the occasion.
Vijayan asked every representative of the municipal councils and panchayats from Quepem, Sanguem and Dharbandora talukas to identify plastic collection points in their areas by February next year.
Bailing project for Quepem, Sanguem and Dharbandora talukas, where plastic waste will be converted into pellets will be set up at Cacora Industrial Estate in the already acquired property of Goa Handicrafts Corporation.
“The scheme will be implemented through Science and Technology Department and government will sanction Rs 50,000 to every municipal council and panchayat to implement the scheme,” said Vijayan.
