In a battle of the bottom two, Sesa Football Academy reigned supreme as they overcame Goa Velha Sports Club 2-1 in Kingfisher Pro League at Duler stadium, Mapusa on Thursday. All goals came in the first half.
Sesa raced into a two-goal lead with goals in the seventh from Marcus Fernandes and in the 15th through Inacio Colaco. Goa Velha’s goal came in the 31st. Goa Velha’s Trevor Dias and Loyed Mascarenhas were booked for fouls and Sesa captain Nicolau Colaco was booked for time wasting.
This win came as sweet music to Sesa coach Clifford Chukwuma’s ears, as his team were disciplined defensively and also broke out quickly on the counter. Inacio Colaco was particularly impressive with his neat assists and touch.
Goa Velha are in urgent need of goals at any cost. Saprem Diukar scored his second goal of the season which was also Goa Velha’s second goal of the season. Goa Velha was missing Elvis Lopes and goalkeeper Agnelo Noronha was the captain.
In the seventh minute, Goa Velha lost the ball cheaply which allowed Amol Salgaokar to sprint down the right wing, before crossing low into the six-yard box for young Marcus Fernandes to slot home.
Sesa’s second goal was a delight to behold. In a move which looked like it had been rehearsed on the training ground a few dozen times, Sesa swept the ball forward in six crisp passes which ended with Inacio Colaco sweetly dispatching into the top right hand corner of the net.
Goa Velha pulled a goal back in the 31st after a lapse in concentration between Sesa keeper Shayan Roy while right back Gagandeep Singh allowed pocket dynamite Saprem Diukar to tap into an empty net.
In the second half, Goa Velha pushed forward for the equaliser but kept getting caught on the break by a clever Sesa attack.
With 20 minutes to go, Goa Velha substitute Reagan Fernandes came on the field as a target man, while Loyed Mascarenhas moved into midfield, but Goa Velha still came up short.
With this win, Sesa have collected seven points from seven matches while Goa Velha are slumped at the bottom with three points from seven matches.
