Shane wins MTCA tourney

PANJIM: Shane Alvarian Braganca of Tiswadi and student of Santa Cruz Higher Secondary School clinched the winner’s trophy in the MTCA All-Goa open rapid tournament organised by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association, at Ravinda Bhawan, recently.

PANJIM: Shane Alvarian Braganca of Tiswadi and student of Santa Cruz Higher Secondary School clinched the winner’s trophy in the MTCA All-Goa open rapid tournament organised by Mormugao Taluka Chess Association, at Ravinda Bhawan, recently. 
Shane was unbeaten as he scored 7.5 points out of 8 rounds. Wilson Cruz, from Ponda secured 2nd place as he scored 7 points while Aryan Raikar student of Posh English High School, Margao came 3rd in tie-breaker with 7 points.
In MTCA 2016-17 league ranking, Bhiamppa Harijan of Marmugao Port Trust came first by scoring 6.5 points while Brendon Peroz (GMC) stood 2nd and Rudresh  Fadte of St Joseph stood 3rd in the 5 match of the series. Anirudh Parsekar is still leading in the MTCA league with 3 wins. 
In all 150 players participated from Goa.
DYSP of Vasco Ruchita Desai was the chief guest and gave away the prizes and stressed that players should work hard to learn this mind game for better future and appreciated the participation by young students in very large numbers. 
Guest of honour Sujan Sukhatankar and Sajjan Sukhatankar were present for the prize distribution function along with Kishor Bandekar Jt. secretary of AICF, vice president MTCA Pundalik Nayak, members of MTCA, Mukund Kambli, Anil Patil, Mukesh Adhia were also present.
Sanjay Kavlekar (Chief Arbiter), Swapnil Hoble (Deputy Arbiter) conducted the tournament while Medha Nigale, Namrata Shetye, Maya Naik, , Vidya Desai and Sujit Bandekar assisted in organising the tournament.
Other prize winners are: Open tournament: Rajash Chari, Swera Braganca, Bhimappa Harijan, Brendon Peroz, Rudresh Fadte, Om Barde, Shvesh Naik.Best Veteran: Prashant Salvi, Best Women: Nandini Saripalli. 
In open age category U-5 Arush Sangaonkar and Ikra Sarfaraz; U-7 Arav Kamat, Shriya Patil; U-9 Parth Salvi and Srilaxmi Kamat; U-11 Vernon Colaco and Sarah Fernandes; U-13 Sanjay Thorat and Ananya Pande; Navin Moajkar and Naroji Sanskruti.
