PANJIM: Dhruv Angle and Anjana Kumari bagged the limelight by emerging champions in the under-17 boys and girls singles category at the All-Goa major ranking badminton tournament organized by Panjim Badminton Club in collaboration with the SAG, at the indoor stadium, Campal, here, recently.
In the boys singles final, Dhruv Angle after losing in the second round came back to his aggressive game to register a thrilling 21-19, 17-21, 21-19 victory over Aashrun Gautam while top seed Anjana Kumari faced a tough resistance from Anar Singbal before registering a 21-17, 23-21 win.
Top seeds Mehul Jirage and Manjushree Raut registered an easy wins to emerge winners in the under-15 boys and girls singles finals. Mehul scored a commanding 21-8, 21-8 win over Curt Coutinho who was just not in his elements in the title clash while Manjushree defeated emerging youngster Lydia Barretto 21-9, 21-12. In the under-13 boys and girls singles final, Soham Kahandeparkar outsmarted Tejas Tendulkar 22-20, 21-13 to emerge champion while Lydia Barretto was in cruise control as she won the title with a comfortable 21-7, 21-14 victory over Arshia Gautam.
Prizes were awarded to the winners, runners-up and third place (semi-finalists). The prizes were awarded to Anosia Chirali and Maitri Telang (U-13 girls), Arjun Fallary and Ayaan Sheikh (U-13 boys), Megan De Souza and Yasmin Sayed (U-15 girls), Soham Khandeparkar and Sushil Nayak (U-15 boys), Manjushree Raut and Megan De Souza (U-17 girls) and Yash Kunkoliekar and Mehul Jirage (U-17 boys). Ashutosh Dhavlikar and Siya Kakodkar bagged the promising players awarded.
