PANJIM: Sunny Sawant, Vaman Fallary and Shourya Joshi won double crowns each while Yasmin Sayed and Arshia Gautam walked away with U-15 and U-13 girls singles titles, at the All Goa Major Ranking Badminton Tournament organised by Ponda Shuttlers in collaboration with Goa Badminton Association, at indoor stadium, Ponda, on Monday.
Sunny won his maiden title in men’s singles category as he upset top seed Floyd Araujo in three close sets.
In men’s doubles, Sunny partnering Navneet Nasnodkar won their second consecutive men’s doubles title on the trot with a commanding straight sets win over Parag Chauhan and Dattaprasad Parab.
Shourya Joshi, fresh from his exploits at the GCC Bahrain Open, won the sub junior boys singles title defeating Rudra Dukle and Sushil Nayak in U-13 and U-15 singles events respectively and Sarvadnya Khandeparkar won U-10 Boys while, Soumya Deshpande emerged winner in U-10 girls.
In Veterans events, Vaman once again proved his superiority winning the 45+ event with C.K. Ayub and 50+ event with Manish Patel to complete his double. Pradeep Dhond and Surendra Kamat emerged winners in Veterans 55+ category.
PWD Minister Sudhin Dhavlikar was the chief guest for the prize distribution occasion while former chief minister Digamber Kamat, was the guest of honour. Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar, Abhay Prabhu, GBA President Richard D’Souza, Secretary Narahar Thakur and club members Anil Painginkar, Sandeep Khandeparker, Sohan Kelekar and Santosh Prabhudesai graced the prize distribution occasion.
The results: U-10 boys: Sarvadnya Khandeparkar bt Salil Deshpande 21-13, 21-6. Girls: Soumya Deshpande bt Noor Gupta (Conceded).
U-13 boys: Shourya Joshi bt Rudra Dukle 21-9, 22-20. Girls: Arshia Gautam bt Siya Kakodkar 21-13, 21-14.
U-15 boys: Shourya Joshi bt Sushil Nayak 21-19, 22-24, 21-15. Girls: Yasmin Sayed bt Lydia Barreto 21-23, 23-21, 21-17.
In men’s singles: Sunny Sawant bt Floyd Araujo 23-21, 21-18, 21-16.
Doubles: Sunny Sawant/ Navvneet Nasnodkar bt Parag Chauhan/ Dattaprasad Parab 21-14, 21-12.
