Signals hammer final nail in Bardez FC coffin

The Army Men have 19 points from 21 matches while Bardez managed only 6 points from 22 matches to end a disappointing run in the league

MAPUSA: Corps of Signals ended Bardez Football Club’s journey in the GPL with a 4-0 win in the Goa Professional League match organized by GFA, at Duler stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Bardez FC now stand relegated from the league.
With today’s win, Corps of Signals have 19 points from 21 matches while Bardez Football Club managed only 6 points from 22 matches.
Army men led 1-0 at half time with Vishnu Chari getting a brace while S Bordolai and Amit Tariyal being the other goal scorers.
Vishnu Chetri got Signals ahead in the 17th minute when he beat a advancing Bardez keeper and shot a low grounder to the far corner of the net as Nim Bhutia provided the assist.
Bardez FC had a chance to get back on terms but Sanjay Vengurlekar who  only had the keeper at his mercy blasted wide after being fed by Richard Cardoz with a perfect cross.
In the closing minutes, Signals squandered a chance of getting ahead when Nim Bhutia could not keep his header goalwards from a cross delivered by Bardez’s Joel Dias.
Crossing ends, Richard’s well taken free-kick in the 53rd minute found Carl D’Souza who surprisingly headed into the waiting keeper’s hands. 
Signals consolidated their lead in the 67th minute through Vishnu who scored off a rebound after Suklab Bordolai’s firm shot from inside the box was well blocked by keeper Hrushikasu Kinalekar.
The Army man wrapped up the match by getting the third goal through a header by Suklab Bordolai from a long ball delivered by MS Roman.
Signals still had time  to fire the fourth goal which came from Amit Tariyal with a well-timed volley which had no answer from the rival keeper to make it 4-0.
