DULER: Sinquerim SC beat Siolim Sodiem SC 2-0, in the Goa Football Association’s Second Division League (Ilhas Zone), played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday.
The Sinquerim team attacked from the word go and completely dominated possession in the first half. Harshad Gaunkar’s shot from inside the box was tapped away by an alert keeper before an unmarked Roran Moble could tap it in the 3rd minute itself.
Later in the 8th minute, Shubham Gaknkar managed to win the ball from Siolim defender Waldron Martins and marched forward but an alert save by the keeper made things different.
In the next minute, Shubham Gaonkar’s long range shot went a whisker away from the post denying their side once again to open their tally.
On the other side, Aniket’s shot of the Siolim side was cleared in time by Dattraj Tari of the Sinquerim team in the 15th minute.
The Siolim SC were made to drop low almost the entire session as the opposition came out with stringent attacks.
In the 22nd minute, Shubham Gaonkar of Sinquerim SC eased pass Akash Banavalikar and Rishab Pednekar and passed the ball forward to Chandan Govekar who had just the keeper to beat but placed his shot too high from target.
On the other side, Ashlish Gawar of Sinquerim placed in a perfect cross to Roran Moble who covered some ground but saw his well placed shot was saved by the opposition goalkeeper as both teams headed into half time goalless.
Crossing over, Sinquerim SC began from where they had left it as Ashlish Gawar’s low shot from inside the box was well caught by the Siolim keeper Sahil Vernekar in the 47th minute.
Siolim Sodiem trued moving forward through Anslem D’Souza but he lacked support upfront. Anslem’s shot off a free kick went straight to the custodian of Sinquerim Devraj Tari in the 59th minute.
In the 69th minute, Chandan Govekar chipped the ball over off a free kick into the box but Harshad Gaunkar’s diving header went inches away from the post.
But he made no mistake the next minute by providing a wonderful assist to Roran Moble as the latter tapped the ball home to give Sinquerim SC a much deserved 1-0 lead.
Chandan Govekar added another for the winners in the final additional time with a well placed strike as earlier Chandan Narulkar failed to convert from the spot for the winning side.
At Quitula ground, Pilerne Sports Club came from behind to hold Saligao Sporting Club to a 2-2 draw.
Saligao Sporting Club led at break as they scored through Diptesh Naik in the 8th and 18th minute however, the Pilerne side came back stronger in the second half and reduced the margin through Pundalik Naik in the 69th minute before Anson D’Souza made it all square in the 87th minute.
